That mole you've been watching? Let's check it.
Living near the beach means sun exposure is part of daily life. Our doctors are skilled in skin cancer detection and minor surgical procedures, helping you stay safe under the Australian sun.
Book Appointment →Living in Cronulla means enjoying one of the most beautiful coastlines in Australia — but it also means higher UV exposure than almost anywhere else in the country. Regular skin checks are one of the most effective ways to detect melanoma and other skin cancers early, when treatment is simplest and outcomes are best.
At Cronulla Medical Practice, our GPs perform thorough full-body skin examinations using dermoscopy — a specialised magnifying tool that allows us to see structures beneath the skin surface that aren't visible to the naked eye. We check every mole, freckle, and lesion, and if anything looks suspicious, we can perform an excision or biopsy on-site.
We also offer cryotherapy (freezing) for sunspots, warts, and certain benign skin lesions. For patients with a history of skin cancer or significant sun exposure, we recommend regular surveillance — typically every 6 to 12 months — so we can track changes over time.
If you've noticed a new mole, a mole that's changed shape or colour, or a spot that won't heal, don't wait. Early detection saves lives.
Book a long consultation (20 minutes) with any of our GPs. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Your doctor will examine your entire body using a dermatoscope. If anything needs further investigation, we can usually perform the procedure on the same day or schedule a follow-up.
No referral is needed. You can book directly with any of our GPs for a full skin check. If we find anything that needs specialist attention, we will arrange the referral for you.
A full body skin check typically takes 15 to 20 minutes. We recommend booking a long consultation so your doctor has enough time to be thorough.
For most Australians living in high-UV areas like Cronulla, an annual skin check is recommended. If you have a history of skin cancer, fair skin, or many moles, your doctor may recommend checks every 6 months.
If a mole or lesion looks concerning, your doctor can perform an excision or biopsy on-site at our clinic. The sample is sent to pathology and results are usually available within a week.
